Performance Tuning

I was just wondering if there are any tips for performance tuning a PunBB Forum site?

I've used some of the plugins and modifications to clean up the index from time to time.  I also go in and close out some old topics.
Is there any negatives to keeping posts around even though they havent been touched in a while?

I recently changed web hosting sites, because my previous disabled my site without warning because there was some excessive CPU cycles used by Flashchat and PunBB Calender.  (Though I've been using that for almost a year now and have only 3-5 people using Chat.  Needless to say I was not happy with that site because the way they handled it.  The new site is working out fine, but I have noticed some slow periods for time to time and a number of SQL connection errors.

My site has only 35 members, with maybe 7 active at one time and a database of about 26Meg.

Is there any regular maint items that should or could be done to a PunBB forum?
